Shop With A Cop 2009

SEBA's 8th Annual Shop With a Cop Makes Christmas Joyful for 565 Children
By Michael Tulisiak, SEBA Events Coordinator

This past December, nearly 600 volunteers escorted 565 children on a $200 shopping spree at 13 Wal-Mart's, one Kohl's and one Dick's Sporting Goods at the 8th Annual Shop With A Cop. A monumental undertaking had it not been for San Bernardino County Sheriff Rod Hoops and San Bernardino County District Attorney Michael Ramos taking a personal interest in the program by urging their mutual department employees to volunteer and support the program.

Additional representatives from Adelanto PD, Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Barstow PD, Chino PD, CHP, San Bernardino County Citizens On Patrol, Redlands PD, San Bernardino PD, Colton PD, Hope Through Housing, First 5 San Bernardino, Fontana PD, United States Marine Corp, Ontario PD, Rancho Cucamonga City Councilman Sam Spagnolo, San Bernardino County Fire Department, San Bernardino County Probation Department, San Bernardino County Fire, San Manuel Department of Public Safety, Welfare Fraud, WVDC, Federal Bureau of Investigation, San Manuel Fire Department, San Bernardino County Fifth District Supervisor Josie Gonzales, Upland PD, Upland Fire Department and Assemblyman Bill Emmerson escorted the children on their shopping sprees.

Most children nominated for this year's program were made by SEBA members. Additional children came from Home of Neighborly Service, Foothill Family Shelter, Hope Through Housing Foundation, Family Focus Center, Veronica's Home, Berhe Group Homes, Time For Change Foundation, Northside Impact and the Community Crisis Response Team. Volunteers for this year's events came from local stations that dedicated one representative who recruited all volunteers.

Major funding for this year's Shop With A Cop was generously provided by: Ms. Alaina Mathews, Colonies Partners, Mark & Rhonda Clark, Judge Kenneth Barr, James and Rowena Ramos, Mitsubishi Cement, Morongo Band of Mission Indians, San Bernardino Public Employees Association, Wal-Mart, Best Way Disposal, McGuire Bros. Enterprises, Nicole Anderson, Attorney at Law, San Bernardino Community College Board of Trustees President James Ramos, Chino Valley Medical Center, Response Envelope, Pechanga Band of Luiseno Mission Indians, Dan Carlone Construction, San Bernardino County Sheriff Rod Hoops, Otto Instrument Service, Inc., Robert & Karen Sorosky, San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, ATT, James Previti Family Foundation, Friends of Bill Emmerson, Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriff's, Brothers Security, and San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos.

Special recognition goes out to Ms. Alaina Mathews for not only generously contributing to this years program but she also personally organized two of the 14 events. Also, all 13 Wal-Mart events went smoothly due to the participation of Ms. Chris Mills, Marketing Assistant for Wal-Mart. Chris attended every event insuring that, on the Wal-Mart corporate level, no stone was left unturned which made each event a joyful experience for not only the children but our volunteers. Thank you Chris!
