President's Message

June 2010

Contract Modification Vote

Since May 11th, SEBA staff members have been making the rounds throughout the County to provide information about the proposed contract modification vote taking place as I write this message. There were a total of 18 meetings to help facilitate the dissemination of information about the proposal. The meetings were well attended by SEBA members who asked many good questions about the pros and cons of the proposed contract modification. The intent of the meetings was two fold. One, to provide the information to the attendees and two, to generate interaction within the membership so an informed decision could be made about the contract. I believe both goals were reached by the attendance levels and responses from the meetings.

Ballots were placed in the mail on May 21st. The ballots need to be returned to the SEBA office by June 14th, at 8:00 A.M. I hope for a high return from everyone so there is a clear picture as to what the membership wants to do in regard to the proposal. If the last three days are an indicator of membership involvement, we will surpass any high marks of ballots returned in past elections.

If you have not received your ballot in the mail, please contact the SEBA office to have a duplicate sent to you or stop by and pick one up. Your vote will only be counted once if for some reason your ballot mailed out on the 21st shows up. You can mail in your ballot, drop it off or have someone else return it as long as it is in the green envelope with your information still affixed to the outside. This is the only way we can track the ballots being returned. The inner envelope is what protects your confidentiality. All green envelops will be opened by the Ballot Counting Committee. The inner secret ballot envelopes will then be opened for counting purposes. Any member is more than welcome to stop by the office to view the process. The results will be sent out via SEBA NEWS FLASH and posted on our website as soon as the count is completed. Please continue to vote and encourage your fellow workers to do the same.

County Elections

June 8th is quickly approaching. I am hopeful this article reaches you before that date. This is the voting date for our local, state, and federal representatives. Some of these elections are more important than others, but they still deserve your attention and involvement in voting for your chosen representative. The SEBA Board of Directors has made endorsements for many of the races that will be decided on June 8th. These selections are listed in this publication and on our website. Please take the time to make yourself familiar with these candidates and cast a vote. Whether you agree with the SEBA endorsements or not, cast a ballot and become involved in the process!

And as always, last but not least, "Stay safe out there."
